“My son was finally given an appointment for a speech evaluation after being on a waiting list for over 4 months. Our speech evaluation was with Shelly Levinson, whom from the beginning was Extremely Rude. After a few short questions, she tried to conduct a test with our son. With just one attempt she lost All patience and became physical (pushed his hands and head down). We told her to just be patient and wait for an answer. Shelly Levinson then became verbally disrespectful to us the parents. Shelly Levinson said “she knows more than we’ll ever know about ASD”, she also said “just accept that your son will never speak- we don’t work miracles- there’s no reason you guys should be here “. ”
“I was seen very quickly. The person supported the needs of my daughter. They let me stay with my daughter the entire time. That I was seen right away, immediately. They were nice to me, very professional.”
“I disliked that the lady doing the evaluation had no patience for my son. She kept asking him questions, but she wouldn't give him enough time to show her or answer the question. She asked me, why isn't he speaking? That was the reason why I took him, because he's not speaking. There was a point where she pushed him, then she told me he fell, he tripped on the table. I could tell my son was uncomfortable because he kept looking at me a little frightened and she told me my son doesn't know everything. I don't think she was very professional about the situation. When she told me about my son probably being autistic, she asked me, has his doctor ever told you about that? I told her that his doctor says he's not autistic, all he needs is a little speech therapy because he's a little delayed in speech. She's like, well your doctor doesn't know anything, all they know is medical stuff. I mean, autistic kids, that's a medical condition. The whole experience I did not feel like I liked it and I don't want to go back personally.”
“Everyone gives them a good review, but honestly I totally disagree. Staff isn't friendly like every one else says. As soon as I walk into those doors, I never get greeted by the staff in the front. They make me feel so uncomfortable where to the point I don't want to take my son there any longer. Not only that, one of the staff who was in session with my son was fed up with him. Yes, he wasn't having the best day...But when I saw the staff's facial expression bringing my son out. I was appalled. If they aren't patience and happy with working with kids, then why be in the field. Another comment I have is... Please don't assume someone's ethnic background. It stated in the summary saying," Mom speaks spanish, but at home primarily language is English." First and far most, I am not hispanic. Full on asian and I speak Khmer. I may look like it, but please ask what nationality and language I speak opposed to assuming and state it in the summary. Last thing, while in evaluation, staff member had a really stern voice. Kids aren't going to listen to you if you have a stern voice. Also, my son don't listen to those if he doesn't know you. I highly recommend not going there until, the staff is more friendly and staff enjoys their jobs more. If I could find another place, I would take him elsewhere. I'm sure my son will progress in a better environment.”
