Matthew Wilken,
Founder & Doctor of Audiology

I was exposed to the life-changing impacts of hearing care at an early age by my father. He was diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of forty and began wearing hearing aids. He soon became licensed as a hearing instrument specialist and who devoted his career to helping the members of our community hear their very best.

I learned the importance of patient care and craft of hearing aid fitting under his guidance, and was inspired to carve my own path in the profession.

My goal is to build a practice that patients want to be at, people want to work in, and physicians want to partner with.

I always knew that I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives through a career in healthcare, but was certain I wanted to forge my path in audiology after discovering the Helen Keller quote, “Blindness cuts us off from things, but deafness cuts us off from people.”

Helping you hear, feel, and live your best is my mission. I am a proud alum of the University of Tennessee, where I earned my Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Audiology degrees, before completing my 4th-year externship at Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Nashville, TN. . For the last 9 years, I’ve worked in private practice audiology with an emphasis on providing all of my patients the best hearing aid fitting experience possible.

I have always had this quote in the forefront of my mind: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” My goal as your audiologist is to create a safe environment where all of your questions and needs are being addressed. I love to educate my patients on the ear’s role in quality of life. To me, it’s essential that everyone is an active participant in their hearing and balance healthcare.

I was born and raised in the South Jersey area, but have lived in many places on my journey to becoming an audiologist. I went to Baltimore, Maryland to earn my B.A. in Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology from Loyola University. Next, I moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to complete my doctorate of audiology at Nova Southeastern University. My fourth year externship was completed at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs Medical Center. My choice to serve Veterans for my final year of school was heavily inspired by each of my grandfathers, both Marines, who lived with hearing loss. While there, I had the unique opportunity to have exposure to all areas of specialty within audiology, including hearing aids, vestibular evaluation, tinnitus management, auditory processing evaluations, and cochlear implants.

My most recent experience was within a busy ENT practice in Dayton, Ohio, where I provided hearing and balance services to my patients.

I could not be more ecstatic to be a part of the Colorado Ear Care team! I am well versed in the many hearing aid manufacturers. My recommendations are tailored to each individual and their unique needs. I enjoy troubleshooting hearing aids and helping my patients find the best solutions.

The area of audiology that I am most passionate about, and specialize in, is fall risk management and balance assessment. My passion for this area blossomed early on in graduate school, which allowed me a unique opportunity to have balance testing and treatment woven into all of my clinical experiences. I look forward to providing specialized balance care for every patient I meet at Colorado Ear Care.

I currently reside in Lowry Fields with my fiancé, Kevin. We are avid gym-goers and enjoy both hiking and skiing. I have seen many breathtaking views hiking Colorado and I look forward to exploring even more in our beautiful new home. Kevin and I love traveling to new cities whenever we can. I also love books and true crime documentaries/podcasts so send me your recommendations!
