Audiologist

After volunteering at a local nursing home during high school, I became familiar with how important hearing and being heard is for us all. Later, while attending the University of Michigan, a family friend who was an ENT introduced me to audiology, which I immediately recognized as the perfect career for me. In the fall of 2001, I went to Hunter College and later the Graduate Center of New York, where I earned a Doctorate in Audiology.

Through my career as an audiologist, it has been especially rewarding to help my own family and friends through hearing loss. This allowed me to witness firsthand how much hearing aids can improve the quality of life for patients. Using my knowledge and skills to make meaningful changes in people’s quality of life is just one reason why I am passionate about this work.

Communication has always been an integral part of my life.

Growing up in a family of seven taught me to appreciate the impact and joy that conversation can bring. My family loves to create our own unique songs and sing them together – these are such special moments that I cherish, and I can’t picture the thought of missing out on them.

When my grandmother became very ill, I moved home to New Jersey to become her primary caretaker. I found myself cherishing every small conversation and laugh that we shared together, and again thought of all the people who might miss out on these special moments if they were unable to hear them. This is why I became an audiologist.

“Why did I wait so long to get hearing aids? Although my hearing loss was becoming noticeable to myself and others, I felt I would wait till it got worse. I asked people to repeat what they said or spell one of the words I was not sure of. It was difficult to hear if there was background noise. I thought there was no downside to waiting longer. Other thoughts were that hearing aids were bulky, uncomfortable and I may feel stigmatized. Lucky for me I met Dr. Rhee. She gave a zoom presentation on Hearing Loss to caregivers like me who attend Adler Aphasia Center in Maywood, New Jersey. She changed my perceptions regarding using hearing aids. Her information encouraged me to seek help sooner rather than later. Hearing loss may negatively affect cognitive ability. I chose Dr. Rhee for my consultation, testing, treatment technology, hearing aids and follow-up care. She is experienced, very knowledgeable, a good listener, and answers all of my questions with extreme patience. Her professional and caring manner are very comforting I broke through my perceived hearing aid stigma barrier. Now I am proud to talk about how life has improved wearing my hearing aids. They are feather weight, comfortable, blend in with my hair color and are rechargeable (no batteries to change). I find myself socializing more. Thanks to the expertise of Dr. Rhee, I now hear clearly and notice new and changed sounds in my daily life. It’s easier to understand others who are speaking. I am proud to say my hearing aids have improved the quality of my life. As you can see by my five star rating, I highly recommend Dr. Rhee of Hearing Doctors of N.J. ”

“I brought my family member to Dr Rhee to address his severe hearing loss. Martin is 55 years old and was born with pretty profound hearing loss that wasn't even properly dx'ed until he was 18. He's had a variety of hearing aids (h/a's) since that time. He has hated *all* of the other h/a's he's ever had, for a variety of reasons: 1) They're uncomfortable in his ears 2) They fall out easily and or often 3) They hurt 4) There's excessive wax build up due to their use 5) He gets headaches/migraines bc *every* sound is over-amplified and the filters on all all previous h/a's do not sufficiently filter out background sounds enough to make wearing the h/a's worthwhile. Yup. before Dr Rhee and the h/a's she matched him with, Martin actually "preferred" profound hearing loss to wearing h/a's. As his family member, this was both frustrating and painfully sad to me for him. Martin's worn his h/a's every single day since he's gotten them. They are custom fit to his ears. They don't come out. He says they are Bar None The Best Hearing Aids he's ever worn. They aren't cheap and that's more of a comment on the state of affairs in our "health care system." Dr Rhee has changed Martin's life and by extension, mine, for the better. If you or your family member has hearing loss, do your health, safety and relationships a huge favor and see Dr Rhee. She knows what's doing and More than that, she cares. We'll never use a different doctor for our family's hearing needs. ”

“Dr. Rhee Nesson is a God sent. I took my aunt to her, after her not being able to hear much for many many years, she made her so comfortable. The way she spoke to her, she was able to hear and understand. She made my aunt feel like there is hope. When we weren’t able to afford what was recommended, Dr. Rhee never gave up trying to help us. I consider Dr. Rhee my family, she came through for us. She helped my family in such a wonderful and blessed way. She has such a big heart, she genuinely cares about her patients and is such a wonderful people person. Trust me, she’s the doc to assist you with your hearing. She’s very professional, very warm, caring, and above all, very humble. I would recommend her without hesitation. Love you doc❤️”

“Rhee was my audiologist in Manhattan. When she moved her practice, I stayed in Manhattan but was disappointed in the service so I decided to commute. I am so happy I did because Rhee is the very best. Great service and excellent advice and work.”
