Dr. Sydney Polifrone earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as a minor in Psychology at Ohio University. She earned her Doctorate in Audiology degree from East Carolina University. She has experience in various hearing healthcare settings such as hospitals, ENT/otology practices, school systems, and Veterans Affairs.
Dr. Polifrone also holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association. She is licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. Dr. Polifrone’s interests within the field of audiology include diagnostic evaluations, fitting hearing aids, assistive listening devices, counseling, and aural rehabilitation. She seeks to improve the quality of life in her patients and provide the utmost care and service through evidence-based methods. In her free time, Dr. Polifrone enjoys musical theater, watching true crime documentaries, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Hearing Instrument Specialist
Sherry Serra is a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist with knowledge and experience in the diagnostic processes used to assess and treat hearing problems with the latest technology in hearing aids and devices.
Sherry has been with Hearing Unlimited since 2013 and absolutely loves herjob and all of the patients. Sherry grew up around hard of hearing or completely deaf people who wore hearing aids and was able to see the struggles that people faced when they were unable to hear well. Her passion is to help people hear better, one patient at a time. She strives to help each individual find a better quality of life with their family, friends and activities that they do on a daily basis.
Sherry lives in Penn Township with her husband and family. Outside of the office, she loves to cook, have date nights with her husband and spend time with her children.
Ann Meyer came to Hearing Unlimited in 2015 from a background in nursing. She's very passionate about educating and advocating for her patients. Ann believes learning never stops and takes advantage of all of the education opportunities Hearing Unlimited gives her so she can better take care of her patients. Each new skill or fact learned Ann takes and applies to her care of her patients to help them hear better and interact with the world around them.
Outside of work, Ann enjoys spending time with her three kids traveling to historic places and museums. Ann can also be found enjoying reading and giving back by participating in Scouting activities with her sons.
Dr. Stacy Malavite earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Bowling Green State University and a Doctorate of Audiology degree from Central Michigan University. Dr. Malavite joined Hearing Unlimited in 2014 bringing with her over 13 years’ experience in the hearing industry. She is the Clinical Director at Hearing Unlimited utilizing her expertise to help provide the best solutions to her patients. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and maintains her Certificate of Clinical Competence from The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Dr. Malavite’s clinical interests include diagnostic hearing assessment, hearing aid fitting and follow-up appointments to ensure complete satisfaction.
When she is not working, you will find Dr. Malavite watching her sons at their football games, basketball games, band concerts or playing with her daughter.
Taylor Thatcher earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Ohio University. She is experienced working with D/deaf and Hard-of-Hearing clients at a private residential school specializing in children and adolescents with hearing loss, in conjunction with behavioral and emotional needs, intellectual disabilities, and other diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Taylor is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). She also has years of training and experience with Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), an augmentative and alternative communication system created to help convey thoughts and needs for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Taylor is dedicated to continuing her education. She plans to apply for her graduate program to earn her Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) In the meantime, Taylor continues learning through certified online courses and webinars. Taylor is committed to providing accessibility, language/communication, options, and perspectives to everyone she meets. Taylor is a problem-solver; she’s willing to try different approaches to a problem or concern to see the variety of outcomes, and determine what is the most beneficial and successful for her patients.
When Taylor is not at Hearing Unlimited, you can find her enjoying exploring Pittsburgh with her friends, solving her Rubik’s cube (in under two minutes), and playing video games.
Christopher M. Eckert is a highly-experienced senior audiologist who has been helping people improve their hearing and their lives for over 22 years. He has extensive experience at practices such as the VA Clinic, ENT clinics, and other private clinic environments. It is his love of sound and his passion for helping individuals and families that led him to join Hearing Unlimited. Here, he takes pride in the patient-focused culture and personal care the office and staff provide.
Christopher is a committed member of several local and national hearing associations and organizations. As a licensed audiologist and member of the Hearing Loss Association of Pittsburgh, Christopher has provided many self-care and educational programs centered on the importance of hearing health. He has given many self-help and educational hearing presentations to the Hearing Loss Association of Western Pennsylvania (HLAP), as well as actively served on the board. This involvement has deepened Christopher’s knowledge of his patients’ everyday hearing struggles and has encouraged him to incorporate this knowledge into helping every Hearing Unlimited patient.
He loves helping people learn how to preserve their hearing and helping those with hearing loss improve their hearing. When he's not working, Christopher enjoys reading and spending time with his family.
Mark Pie has been in the hearing instrument field for over three decades and has been an Audiology Technician with Hearing Unlimited since 2016.
Mark provides essential instrument servicing, counseling, and insuring a positive experience for our valued patients.
His eclectic past education and work experience also finds him developing an ongoing line of industry-related cartoons and cartoon videos that teach, engage and entertain through our social media platforms and other marketing efforts.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys time with his wife, adult children and grandchildren.
