“I started looking for an audiologist several years ago and was given an ear exam just using headphones. That was all the audiologist did before giving me a quote on the 1 hearing aid that they suggested. Years past and I came across Island Better Hearing and made an appointment. She gave me several hearing tests in a soundproof booth, in order for me to try different major brand hearing aids to be able to select the one that I had the best score. “ Service is often an afterthought in the business world. That’s not the case at Island Better Hearing. A few days ago, my hearing aid began acting up. It would randomly become muffled, and sometimes changing through the different settings would also cause it to become muffled. I found that shutting the aid down and powering it up again, it would work until I tried to change to a different preset. After making sure I had a fresh battery in it, the mold was clear, and trying all the presets on the app, I decided to bring it to IBH in the morning and have them check it out. I would also bring along a few of my older aids to see if I could get them refurbished, so I can use them as backups. I play in a band, and I really can’t afford to have my hearing aid go dead on stage without one to immediately replace it. I showed up, without an appointment mind you, and asked if Tara was available. Everyone at IBH is great, but I’ve been going to Tara for years, because she knows best how my wacky brain works. She’s waited patiently while I call up different synthesizer presets on my iPad, so she can adjust the EQ settings on my aid while I play them. She’s gone out to the parking lot to adjust my aid, so I can hear the open trunk alarm on my car. But Tara happened to be with another customer. The woman at the front desk, whose name escapes me right now, asked how she could help. I explained that the Oticon I was wearing might need to be sent out for repair, and that I also wanted to look into how much it would cost to refurbish one or both of my Resound hearing aids. She explained how the refurbishing process would work, looked up which Resound was the newer of the two I had, so I could decide which one(s) to repair when I got the quote, and left a message to Tara for me regarding an aid accessory I had dropped off a while back. When during the course of conversation she learned that both Resound aids had had issues with moisture, she asked me if I wanted to have the Oticon I was wearing put in their drier. I said, “Sure!” After about 15 minutes or so, she came back and said that there had been a lot of moisture in the aid. She explained that the moisture was most likely the cause of the issues I was having with the aid. All of this was done with a smile, a boatload of patience, and respect for the customer. It’s been several days, and my Oticon has been working perfectly. All presets and Bluetooth work. My old aids are on the way to be checked out, and I’m a very satisfied customer. Could I buy a hearing aid elsewhere? Sure, I could. Would I? Absolutely not. Because when it comes right down to it, IBH ticks all the right boxes. TL;DR - I had an issue with an aid, walked in sans appointment, got great service, my issue was solved, and spent not a penny. You can’t go wrong with Island Better Hearing! ”
