Audiologist

Dr. Ann DePaolo Wietsma earned her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from A.T. Still University–Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa, Arizona. She also holds a master’s degree in education of the hearing impaired and audiology from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in speech pathology and audiology from West Virginia University in Morgantown.

Ann began her career as a speech pathologist and resource teacher for students with hearing impairments. She then spent 15 years as a consultant for a leading U.S. hearing aid manufacturer before establishing her own private audiology practice in Washington, D.C. Prior to relocating to the Northern Neck, she provided expert hearing care to a diverse patient population.

She is a licensed audiologist in Virginia and Maryland and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Ann is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (FAAA) and has earned board certification from the American Board of Audiology. Additionally, she is a licensed Virginia hearing aid specialist and remains committed to ongoing education, having received multiple awards for continuing education. She is an active professional member of the American Tinnitus Association, the Academy of Doctors of Audiology, and the Speech and Hearing Association of Virginia.

When Ann acquired the Mathews Hearing Aid Center in 2001, her goal was to elevate the standard of patient care by providing comprehensive audiology and hearing services for both children and adults in the community. Her extensive background in hearing counseling and rehabilitative services allows her to offer practical, patient-centered solutions. She has a particular passion for helping individuals with tinnitus manage their condition and improve their quality of life.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Ann moved to the Northern Neck from Silver Spring, Maryland, and now resides in Kilmarnock. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and cherishing quality moments with her family, especially her granddaughters, Diane and Megan.

Audiologist

“Providing excellent hearing care gives us the opportunity to help patients with their vital connection to others.  Without good hearing, we often lose that connection.”

Kevin earned both his Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology and his Master’s degree in Audiology from the University of Virginia. With over 22 years of experience delivering hearing care in Roanoke and Charlottesville, he later transitioned into practice management, spending more than 14 years overseeing offices across Virginia. His experience includes working with both a private, family-owned practice and a corporate retail practice affiliated with a major hearing instrument manufacturer.

Kevin brings extensive expertise in patient care, hearing instrument technology, and clinical audiological evaluations. His diverse background equips him with the knowledge to address a wide range of hearing loss challenges.

As a strong advocate for early intervention, Kevin has witnessed firsthand how many patients delay seeking help—only to later realize that earlier treatment could have led to better outcomes.

Kevin is a licensed audiologist and hearing instrument specialist in Virginia. He holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (FAAA). Additionally, he has earned board certification from the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences. Committed to ongoing education, Kevin serves as a state exam specialist for individuals pursuing licensure in Virginia and continuously enhances his expertise through continuing education.

Originally from West Virginia, Kevin moved to the Roanoke Valley at a young age and has also lived in Salem and Charlottesville for many years. Recently, he and his wife, Leah, relocated to Gloucester to be closer to their grown children and grandchildren.

Kevin is excited to join The Audiology Offices and will primarily be seeing patients at the Gloucester location.

Janie Anderson,
BC-HIS

Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences

Janie became part of The Audiology Offices team in 2007 as an administrative assistant. She later completed a certification program as an audiology assistant specializing in diagnostic testing. Inspired by her work with patients experiencing hearing loss, she was eager to expand her professional expertise. In 2013, she completed an extensive training program through the International Hearing Society, where she studied hearing science, assessment, treatment, and the selection and fitting of hearing instruments. Following her training, Janie became a licensed Virginia Hearing Instrument Specialist.

She has since earned Board Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (BC-HIS) from the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (NBC-HIS)—a prestigious recognition of excellence in hearing healthcare. This designation reflects her dedication to mastering advanced skills and providing exceptional care to her patients.

Janie has a unique ability to help both new and returning patients adjust to their hearing instruments with patience and compassion. Her daily commitment to outstanding hearing healthcare is evident in the care she provides. Many patients are surprised to learn that she personally understands their challenges—having lived with severe hearing loss and worn hearing instruments since childhood.

A Virginia native, Janie grew up in West Point and now resides in Middlesex County with her husband, Aaron. Their son, Chipper, lives in Virginia Beach. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, actively participates in her community, and is involved with her church and local volunteer fire department.
