Audiologist

Passionate about helping people hear, Dr. Joyce Sexton started Northern Hearing Services in 1988. She had worked as an audiologist for Anchorage School District since 1983 and felt that quality private audiological services were needed for adults in the community as well as for children. Dr. Sexton received her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, a Master’s degree from University of Montana and her Doctor of Audiology degree from AT Still University in Arizona. Outside of work Dr. Sexton enjoys reading, x-country skiing, running, biking, hiking and spending time with family.

Jessica Voigt,

Audiologist

Dr. Jess Voigt, Au.D., joined Northern Hearing Services in 1999.  She is an Alaska state licensed clinical audiologist and a certified member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.  Dr. Voigt received her Bachelor of Science from Abilene Christian University in Texas, a Master of Science in Audiology from the University of Wisconsin and her Doctorate in Audiology from Salus University. Dr. Voigt enjoys helping patients of all ages hear better.  Specializing in Cochlear Implants, she was an integral part of establishing the Alaska Cochlear Implant Network in 2003. Outside of the clinic she enjoys family, friends, her local school and church communities, and exploring Prince William Sound.

Julia Swayne,

Audiologist

Dr. Julia Swayne joined Northern Hearing Services in 2017, after spending a year in Malawi, Africa providing audiologic care to under-served populations. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from San Francisco State University, later receiving her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T. Still University. Her clinical interests include pediatric audiology, focused on addressing the social, emotional, academic, and communicative needs of her patients and their families. Dr. Swayne specializes in diagnosing and treating a variety of hearing disorders in patients of all ages, particularly focusing on pediatric diagnostics and amplification, newborn and infant hearing evaluations, and cochlear implants. Dr. Swayne is an Alaska state licensed clinical audiologist and a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. Outside the office, you will find Dr. Swayne hiking, skiing, cuddling her cat, and doing partner acrobatics.

Nicole Sutton,
Audiology Technician

Nicole has been an audiology technician with Northern Hearing Services since 2017. She has an extensive background in public health program coordination. If you walk in and need help with your hearing equipment, Nicole will assist you with her attention to detail and her big smile and laugh. Nicole has expanded her technical expertise to include troubleshooting of cochlear implant devices as well as all other hearing instruments. Outside of the office, Nicole enjoys hiking, camping and raising her family in the great state of Alaska.

Maryellen Bouchet,
Audiology Technician

Maryellen has been with Northern Hearing Services, helping our valley residents hear since 2011. She started as our patient care coordinator and trained to be our lead Wasilla audiology technician. She will greet you by name, will remember when you were here last and she would be more than happy to swap a fishing story or two. When she is not at work, Maryellen enjoys spending time with her husband, children and pets. “I went in there and she gave me a quick tutorial about some of things I didn't know about the hearing aids. We had difficulty syncing and instead of passing it off, she really worked hard in order to fix it properly. ”
