Dr. Julie Prutsman, owner and founder of Sound Relief Hearing Center, is an expert at helping people hear better and treating tinnitus. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Marietta College, her Master’s Degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Colorado, and her Doctorate Degree in Audiology from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry’s School of Audiology. She is a member of the American Academy of Audiology, American Doctors of Audiology, and the American Tinnitus Association.

“Dr. Abby & Sound Relief team are great! I have pretty bad tinnitus, so need hearing aids that play sounds to help with it. I tried a local (Woodland Park, CO) audiologist hearing aids & they didn't work well at all. So I'll continue to use Sound Relief. Dr Abby knew of my problems & after my appointment with her, she called me at home to make sure my Sound Relief hearing aids were helping & they are. I wouldn't go anywhere else now, as they are tinnitus specialists.”

“I have had my 2:00 for a year. I have to drive 45 min to get to the office. I waited 29 minutes or more to get to a room and then waited 45 minutes to have my annual test. Have my ear pieces cleaned while I waited. So an hour and almost 15 minutes past my appointment time I got tested. A ten minute test! Not what I have experienced in the past 7 years going to this office. I was NOT for a visit. Thank goodness. ”

“My hearing deteriorated as an Air Force pilot years ago with the high frequency loud sounds on the flight line. It finally reached a point where i knew, with the help of an office testing process that i needed Oticon hearing devices. they work great, help reduce my tinnitus, and provice an awesome connection to my music devices. “Dr. Megan Read introduced me to being able to hear conversations and to watch TV shows again with out the volume turned way up . I was totally amazed at what proper hearing aides can do to open up the world around me . I love the blue tooth feature of these hearing aides. My daughter accompanied me for my test and fitting. She was so impressed by Dr. Read's explaining of the test and results. We both learned a lot that day. It is routine for me to put my hearing aides in after I am ready for the day and to take them out when I'm ready to crawl into bed. I absolutely love them. I would highly recommend the Oticon. Dr. Read answered all of our questions and was very patient with demonstrating how to put them in my ear. Their customer service is top of the line. ”

“After hearing about Sound Relief on TV, I really liked their approach. When my mom required some newer technology hearing aids, I knew where to go right away. We met Dr, Megan Read. She was extremely pleasant and interacted perfectly with my mom. She was very knowledgeable with their system, the products and what would best suit my mother. After going through some tests she quickly determined the proper path to take and set us up with the latest technology and made certain to adjust, test, go over the charging process, etc. I was impressed with her ability to tweak the settings until my mom felt she could hear much better than with her old hearing aids. We recently went in for a follow up visit where Dr. Read did some further adjustments and replaced one of the cords to ensure all was working well. I was also very impressed with the staff up front... extremely friendly and super easy to work with every time. Lastly, the cookies in the waiting area add a nice touch, I really appreciated the entire experience with Sound Relief and recommend anyone with hearing issues of any kind go straight to any of their offices... however Dr. Read gets our vote, she was awesome! ”

“Megan Read was referred to me by a very satisfied patient of Megan's who had not been satisfied with his previous Audiologist. Having had the same experience, I began going to her 2 years ago. She worked with me in trying to keep my old hearing aids functional, with no pressure to get me into new hearing aids. After a while, it became apparent that I needed to make a change. I was able to try other hearing aids at home without any pressure to make a decision to make a change. During this time, I tried a new hearing aid made by Oticon, which has turned out to be an outstanding recommendation. Megan was very patient with me as we went through the entire process. “Dr Megan Read has been outstanding and I’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for a dedicated and highly professional audiologist. She has taken the time to answer all my questions, take my concerns seriously and worked to correct any issues I’ve encountered. I had a very bad experience with my hearing devices in the past. “I would not recommend Sound Relief to anyone who has insurance and/or wants to use insurance, as Sound Relief does not work with insurances. I have been seeing Sound Relief for almost a year for my tinnitus with not relief. I paid out of pocket. But that is not my complaint. I tried to take my husband to Sound Relief and they would not considering working with his insurance. He is COMPLETELY covered for all hearing tests and hearing devices every 36 months. We went to another audiologist office and my husbands insurance paid $7500 in full for the new hearing devices. The bottom line is that Sound Relief does not want to deal with insurances and expects everyone to pay out of pocket. On another note - the office staff is not friendly or helpful. When one of my devices stopped working, I felt like I had to beg for an appointment to be seen. ”

We work with many different insurance plans and help thousands of patients each year use their insurance benefits here. Unfortunately when someone’s insurance plan only works with a very select group which agrees to deep discounts and only covers very limited follow-up visits, they aren’t able to use that benefit here. For tinnitus patients, we look forward to doing their follow up appointments to measure just how much progress they’ve made with their tinnitus. ”

“The initial meeting was with the front office saleswoman, who briefly explained the method they use to try to mitigated tinnitus. After we asked the cost of treatment, we were told that we'd need a second appointment to determine which system would best work for our situation, which would then determine the cost. We were then told we'd have to speak to a financing company to "qualify" before they would schedule another appointment. This made absolutely no sense since they didn't give us any information regarding the cost so we had no way of knowing if we needed financing or could pay out of pocket. We were then aggressively hustled to the very public phone at the receptionist's desk, in front of a waiting room of strangers, to speak to a financing company that they had on the phone. In a clinic treating people with hearing problems, in a noisy front office waiting room, we were being asked personal financial questions over the phone by a finance company we had never heard of or had an opportunity to research. It was a high-pressure, hard sell and hustle with absolutely no concern or consideration for our situation. ”

When a person doesn’t have medical coverage or any other means to pay for our professional services or equipment, it becomes very difficult for us to continue to provide those services to them. We understand that can be upsetting. This is why we refer people in that situation to Vocational Rehabilitation to seek assistance. When someone is unable to get approved for financing and has no other way to pay for services, unfortunately there is nothing further we can offer. Dr. Megan Read, Au.D., CH-TM, Dr. Kelli Whitley, Au.D., CH-TM, and Dr. Abbey Poe, Au.D., CCC-A, CH-TM, have extensive experience with complex tinnitus and decreased sound tolerance. All receive direct mentorship from founder Dr. Julie Prutsman, Au.D., CH-TM, a nationally recognized tinnitus specialist. As an independent, family-owned practice, recommendations are based solely on patient needs and best available evidence.

Highlands Ranch utilizes The Sound Relief Method, an evidence-supported tinnitus-management protocol integrating personalized sound therapy, principles of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT), and counseling strategies informed by cognitive-behavioral research. This method targets auditory pathways and neurological responses involved in tinnitus and sound hypersensitivity.
