Leslie Sonnenklar is not a native Texan but says,”I got here as fast as I could” from frozen winters in Minnesota where she was raised…just a short trip down US IH 35 from Rochester to Corpus Christi, TX (by way of a short side bar south on 37) in 1992. Since then, it’s been warm and warmer, the perfect environment to grow herself and her two children!
She graduated from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus, with a BA in Humanities. Leslie has proven to be like most folks with that degree, “a dilettante, a dualist and a dabbler,” to quote a favorite professor. After eschewing an invitation from U of M Law School she had several successful careers in fashion – buyer, manager and owner of boutiques, several years in New York as jewelry designer. Back at home, a licensed insurance broker and early into the cellular market when phones were “bricks” or carried around in a big bag! Moving to Texas, she found her true, most perfect calling though the back door as a business manager in the hearing aid industry. Leslie found the clinic to be better than the office and immediately apprenticed to become a hearing instrument specialist.
Leslie moved to Austin in 2000 to work for with a hearing aid manufacturer, problem solving with patients from the private sector who were not satisfied with their fittings. A great, challenging job! But private practice called her back to immediate patient care and she found her greatest satisfaction growing a small practice into one that now has three local offices as part of a large family practice based in Fort Worth. That practice, all of it, was sold to a corporate entity in 2012 and Leslie retired in August 2015. But retirement is not in her make-up, so she is now a consultant with RK Audiology, available by appointment.
Venessa Rector is the Office Manager for RK Audiology and the voice and face who will greet you bright and early. When not at RK, Venessa enjoys camping, swimming, and other outdoor fun with her husband and kids. She loves exploring Austin and finding new restaurants and adventures.
