“The audiology department was fantastic! We got our report within 2 weeks of the evaluation. If I could just rate them, I would give them 5 stars. If you need an audiologist, this would be the place to go. The speech services were not helpful. It took almost 3 months to get my report back (after I called several, several times). If you have a deductible plan, they expect you to pay up front (not a problem). But if your insurance pays more and you are entitled to a refund, good luck getting it! It has been a month and I'm still waiting on my refund. I get the same excuse every time I call to check on my refund, "It will be mailed on this day or that day".”
Received 06/23/2016Official Response from New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center:“We at New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center were pleased to hear the positive review of our audiology department’s effective assessment and report submission on the child tested. This is the level of professionalism for which we strive in all of our departments. The delay of three months for submission of the speech language evaluation report is outside the two week turn-around time we have set as our standard. Since we are unable to determine the name of the child tested I do not know which speech language pathologist conducted the assessment in order to address the reason for the delay. To monitor and prevent this delay in the future, we have reinstated our monitoring system whereby the typist now monitors the turn-around time of all speech language evaluations from time of testing to completion of final report and notifies the clinician when their report is outstanding or past due. To address the refund, the Business Office has initiated a policy of preparing refund checks on the 15th and last work day of the month, to coincide with issuance of payroll checks. To determine why the check in question was not submitted timely, we have run an ageing report looking for clients with credit balances and researched the list of refunds pending and submitted. We were unable to locate such a pending refund and, not being able to determine the child tested, we are not able to submit the refund. (Our data base searches by the client seen versus the name of the parents). We also do not know if a check was submitted but possibly lost in the mail as has happened in the past. Once the parent identifies themselves, any pending refund will be prepared. ”
“I am 81 years old, retiree with a low monthly income. I was referred to the NOSHC by my doctor, as I was having big hearing problems and could not afford to buy hearing aids. I applied for free aids and was approved right away without a long waiting period or any hassle. The office staff was very helpful. The audiology doctor, who worked on my hearing aids, was very kind and patient with me. I was provided hearing aids free of charge. It's a great help and my life is much better as I can now communicate with people around me. I am very grateful to the NOSHC, to Dr. Melody B. Walsh and to the office staff. ”
