“She did a fine job. She told me what my issues were, and I took her word for it.”

“They were nice, but it would be better if they were more personal, more of a personal touch.”

“I have tinnitus and I wanted to find out how I can be treated. I think the audiologist was more interested in selling me hearing aid pillows with music than anything else. She was very thorough in her testing, but I'm not too sure what was accomplished, because I didn't get the answers that I needed to hear.”

Official Response from South Miami Audiology:
“Dear Nicole S. We are sorry if we did not meet your expectations. Tinnitus has no magic “cure”. There is no pill to make it go away. As you said, testing is thorough to assist us in determining which devices will work. Utilizing noise, preferably a noise generator, and appropriate counseling remain the primary method to handle this issue. To that end, please remember that all forms of treatment are and were discussed, from MP3 style devices to ear level devices such as the Widex devices with Zen. Apps for the phone or tablet were mentioned. Most devices are very expensive, however, if sleep issues were indicated, then the sleep pillow is a quick and inexpensive way to assist immediately. No more time is spent on the sleep pillow than on some of the other solutions. Most do not purchase a sound pillow but rather ear levels devices such as the Widex devices with Zen. These devices are tried prior to purchase. If not tried at the time of visit, the patient is asked to return to try the ear level devices before deciding on such an expensive purchase. Not all patients return. Other treatments, such as CBT or mindfulness are also recommended. It is unfortunate that devices are so expensive, but the standard of care in tinnitus are some kind of noise generators along with specific types of counseling. Whether the patient wishes to follow these recommendations are up to them. Again, if there is anything we can do to assist with these decisions, please don’t hesitate to call the office. Ear levels devices are always available in the office to try and to assist in determining if it is right for you. Respectfully South Miami Audiology Consultants ”
