Dr. Eblin joined the JHBI Audiology team in May of 2008. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from the University of Georgia and was awarded his Doctor of Audiology degree from Auburn University in 2009. He holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (FAAA), and is board certified by the American Board of Audiology (ABA). Dr. Eblin is also a member of the American Academy of Audiology Ethical Practices Committee. Dr. Eblin’s clinical interests include vestibular assessment, electrophysiological testing, tinnitus assessment and management, hearing aids, and diagnostic audiology.
John C. Goddard, M.D. was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia and attended medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Goddard then went on to complete his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He subsequently earned a Neurotology fellowship position at the renowned House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles, California. During this two-year fellowship, Dr. Goddard participated in the surgical and medical management of patients with complex hearing, balance, and skull base disorders and was engaged in numerous clinical research activities pertaining to the field of Neurotology. Dr. Goddard has won several awards for his research efforts and has a variety of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Goddard is board certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and is board eligible for sub-specialty certification in Neurotology. Dr. Goddard is also involved in medical mission work to help train physicians and perform ear surgery on underserved patients. He has traveled to Cambodia and the Dominican Republic in the past and plans to continue his efforts around the world.
J. Douglas Green
J. Douglas Green, Jr., M.D., M.S., FACS is founder and president of the Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute. He has a certificate of added qualification in neurotology and is recognized both nationally and internationally in the treatment of ear disease, inner ear and skull-base surgery. Not only is Dr. Green known as an expert clinician, but he has been acknowledged as a leader in otological research. He has written eight clinical book chapters, and has had 36 scientific articles published in medical journals. Dr. Green has given nearly 65 oral presentations about his scientific research and work at peer-reviewed national and international meetings. He is currently participating in a number of clinical research trials involving hearing aids and prostheses for otologic surgery. As the president of the American Neurotology Society, Dr. Green is at the forefront of his field. He was elected to the position by his peers last year, and leads the organization in its mission to provide continuing medical education and support research for its members. Locally, Dr. Green has earned multi-year recognition as one of Northeast Florida’s Best Doctors by Jacksonville Magazine. Last year he was chosen by a survey of his peers as one of the top doctors they would personally recommend. Dr. Green has been involved with international medical mission trips to Vietnam, Zambia and Nigeria, where he has treated patients and worked with local physicians in the most primitive circumstances. Because of his experiences, he has established a non-profit organization called Hearing Help for Africa to provide for short-term and long-term improvement of the delivery of health services.
Judy Nelson, MPAS, PA-C, is a certified physician assistant with more than 25 years of experience in clinical and surgical practice. Prior to joining Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute in 2003, she was on staff at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville for 11 years. Ms. Nelson has earned distinctive recognition since the beginning of her career. She graduated at the top of her class from the Emory University Physician Assistant Program after getting her undergraduate degree from Stetson University. She went on to earn her Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from the University of Nebraska and has completed the course work for her Ph.D. In 2009, the American Academy of Physician Assistants recognized Ms. Nelson as a “Distinguished Fellow”, an honor awarded to less than one percent of physician assistants in the country. The award is made to those who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to their profession, commitment to advancing health care for all people, and exemplary personal and professional development.
Upon completing her Doctor of Audiology degree in 2003, Dr. Olson immediately put her proficiency in American Sign Language to work as an educational audiologist at a school for the deaf in Northern Virginia. In 2006 she relocated to Jacksonville and worked in a pediatric clinical setting performing diagnostic testing and hearing aid fittings. Dr. Olson was soon recruited by a global manufacturer of hearing aids to work as a product specialist and trainer, assisting with complex pediatric fittings. She joined the JHBI team in 2007 with specialties in diagnostic audiology and hearing aids and with a particular interest in new hearing aid technology and assistive listening devices. Dr. Olson is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders. She was awarded her Doctor of Audiology degree from Gallaudet University, the world’s only university in which all programs and services are specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students. Dr. Olson has a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association, is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and is board certified by the American Board of Audiology.
Dr. Pearson is a graduate of the University of Florida, where she received her Bachelor of Art degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. She earned her Master of Science degree from the University of South Florida and was later awarded her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T. Still University. She earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association and is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. Dr. Pearson has worked in the field of audiology for 19 years and her specialties include diagnostic audiology and hearing aids, with a special interest in electrophysiological testing.
Mary Jo Schuh
Ms. Schuh is a board-certified audiologist with 28 years of experience in clinical testing and rehabilitation of children and adults. Her diverse experience includes developing, implementing and managing pediatric services as Chief Audiologist at Nemours Children’s Clinic Jacksonville for 15 years. Her focus is on pediatric and adult cochlear implants, and she earned a specialty certificate in cochlear implants from the American Academy of Audiology. Ms. Schuh earned her bachelor’s degree from University of Florida and her master’s degree from Florida State University. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association. Ms. Schuh is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, a member of the Florida Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association.
