Dr. Blair Mattern is a licensed audiologist and the Audiology Clinic Director at the Ball State Audiology clinic. He earned a bachelor’s degree and his Doctorate in audiology from Ball State University and holds a certificate of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
Blair enjoys spending time with his family at the lake in summer and competitive sports when he is not busy helping patients hear better.
Dr. Lauren Shaffer is a licensed audiologist and our Audiology Program Director in our Audiology Department. She earned a PhD in audiology from Purdue University and holds a certificate of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
Lauren enjoys ballroom dancing with her husband when she is not busy with her patients; together they train, compete and perform locally for charity events in their community.
Dr. Claudia Updike is a licensed audiologist and an Audiology professor here at Ball State University. She earned her Master’s degree in Audiology at State University of New York at Buffalo and then completed her Ph.D. in Audiology at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She holds a certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association, is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, American Board of Audiology and license to practice Audiology in the state of Indiana. At Ball State University, Dr. Updike teaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level classes among other functions within the college. Dr. Updike also does a consultancy with a local school system, wherein she provides diagnostic services, amplification consultancy, and educational audiology services.
Outside of audiology, Dr. Updike loves spending time with her family and friends, playing golf, traveling, reading, music and dancing.
Dr. Greg Newman is a licensed audiologist and an Audiology Assistant Professor. He earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in audiology from Ohio University. He holds a certificate of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association and is an expert in hearing aid technology.
Dr. Newman enjoys spending time with his wife and three children when he is not busy helping people achieve healthy hearing.
Dr. Laura Stevenson is a licensed audiologist who earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and her Doctorate degree in audiology from the University of Tennessee-Memphis Allied Health Science Center. She holds a certificate of clinical competence in audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association and specializes in pediatric audiology specifically ages birth to three years of age.
Dr. Stevenson enjoys traveling, outdoor concerts, participating in recreational sports leagues and spending time with family and friends.
