Ph.D., FAAA

Audiologist

Timothy C. Steele, Ph.D., FAAA, president of Associated Audiologists, Inc., has extensive experience in the field of audiology. He is a clinical assistant professor and has an ad hoc graduate faculty appointment at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he teaches audiology coursework and he provides clinical instruction for audiology programs in the region. He earned his doctorate of philosophy in audiology degree from the University of Kansas. Dr. Steele’s research interests and passion are in the areas of hearing loss rehabilitation and hearing aids. 

Dr. Steele sees patients at our Overland Park and Prairie Village clinic locations.

Stacey Baldwin,

Audiologist

Stacey M. Baldwin, Au.D., FAAA, senior audiologist and clinical systems manager, has been with Associated Audiologists for nearly a decade. She is a clinical assistant professor and has an ad hoc graduate faculty appointment at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she teaches audiology coursework and provides clinical instruction for students. She has been an active leader in local and regional professional audiology societies and earned her doctorate of audiology degree from the University of Kansas.

Lisa Battani,
AuD, FAAA

Audiologist

Dr. Battani serves as the practice’s Hearing Aid Program Director and specializes in hearing aid technology. Prior to joining Associated Audiologists, Dr. Battani served as the regional sales manager for Widex USA, Inc. Dr. Battani also has worked as audiologist with CIGNA Healthcare of Arizona, Mesa and Phoenix, Ariz. She earned her doctorate in audiology from Central Michigan University/Vanderbilt University Distance Learning Program and performed a fellowship with the Mayo Clinic. She received her master’s and bachelor’s of arts degrees in audiology from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Dr. Battani is a frequent presenter at area conventions and conferences. She is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association, the American Academy of Audiology, and serves as secretary of the Kansas City Society of Audiology.

Samuel Bittel,
AuD, FAAA

Audiologist

Samuel N. Bittel, Au.D., FAAA, vestibular program director, specialized in vestibular anatomy, physiology, diagnostics and treatment during his two-year residential training at the American Institute of Balance and the National Balance Centers. He earned his doctorate of audiology degree from Nova Southeastern University and is involved with the University of Kansas Medical Center as an adjunct assistant professor in the neurology and audiology departments. He teaches the doctoral audiology vestibular course, and lectures to neurology residents and fellows on electrophysiology and vestibular evaluation/treatment. He also serves in leadership roles with national and regional professional audiology societies.

Danielle Dorner,

Audiologist

Dr. Dorner is a vestibular audiologist, working with Sam Bittel, Au.D., FAAA, Vestibular Program Director, to care for our patients experiencing dizziness and balance problems. She earned her doctorate of audiology degree from Northern Illinois University and her bachelor's degree from Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill. Dr. Dorner performed her clinical externship with Associated Audiologists.

Dr. Dorner sees patients at our Shawnee Mission, Overland Park and Kansas City clinics.

Linda Erickson,
AuD, FAAA

Audiologist

Linda M. Erickson, Au.D., FAAA, senior audiologist, specializes in diagnosing and treating hearing loss and tinnitus. She was an audiologist with the practice from 1995 through 2004, but recently has also worked as a contract audiologist with the Veteran’s Administration here in Kansas City. Linda recently completed her doctorate of audiology with A.T. Still University. She earned her master of arts degree in audiology from the University of Kansas and her bachelor of science degree in education from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kan. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; the Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association; and the Kansas City Society of Audiology.

Dr. Erickson sees patients in our Overland Park and Prairie Village clinic locations.

Laura Flowers,

Audiologist

Laura A. Flowers, Au.D., FAAA, tinnitus and sound sensitivity manager, developed the tinnitus and hyperacusis program in 2008 for Associated Audiologists. She has attended many specialized courses and has presented on tinnitus at regional conferences. She has had advanced training in the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment. Before joining the practice, she served as a clinical audiologist with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She earned her doctorate of audiology from Salus University. She has served locally on the boards of St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf and Kansas City Society of Audiology.

Samuel Gillespie,

Audiologist

Samuel A. Gillespie, Au.D., FAAA, joined Associated Audiologists after earning his doctorate in audiology degree from the University of Kansas-Medical Center. Dr. Gillespie performed his clinical externship with Associated Audiologists. During his externship, Dr. Gillespie had the opportunity to specialize in the latest hearing aid technology, aural rehabilitation and tinnitus evaluation and treatment. Today, he practices full time in the Manhattan community where his goal is to provide each patient with the best hearing experience possible. Dr. Gillespie also is active in the Manhattan community as a member of the Manhattan Rotary Club and the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.

Travis Hopkins Williams,
AuD, FAAA

Audiologist

Travis B. Hopkins Williams, Au.D., FAAA specializes in diagnosing hearing loss and hearing aid fitting and verification.

He joined Associated Audiologists after earning his doctorate of audiology degree from Washington University’s St. Louis School of Medicine. He performed his clinical externship at Washington University in St. Louis with the Division of Audiology. His doctoral research project analyzed the impact of directional microphone technology on speech recognition in noise in a BICROS hearing aid.

Dr. Hopkins Williams’ personal experience with hearing loss is what inspired him to pursue a career in audiology. He began to lose his hearing in grade school and wore hearing aids, but received a cochlear implant when he was 13 years old. Today, his hearing sensitivity and speech reception are essentially normal.

Audiologist

Dana N. Jacobson, Au.D., FAAA, senior audiologist and Overland Park Clinic manager, has been with Associated Audiologists for six years and performed her clinical externship with the practice. She earned her doctorate of audiology degree from the University of Kansas and is active in local and regional professional audiology societies. Dr. Jacobson serves as an ad hoc graduate faculty member at the University of Kansas Medical Center and recently co-authored a book chapter examining deficits in speech understanding. She has participated in several medical mission trips to Antigua, Guatemala and manages the practice’s various philanthropic programs.

Dr. Lake specializes in diagnosing hearing loss and tinnitus, and offers her patients the most advanced hearing aid technology available. She earned her doctor of audiology degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center and a bachelor’s of communication sciences and disorders degree from Western Illinois University. She performed her externship with Associated Audiologists, then following graduation relocated to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina to work with Advanced Hearing Care. Dr. Lake is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Sarah Jo Mediavilla,
AuD, FAAA

Audiologist

Sarah Jo Mediavilla, Au.D., FAAA, has more than 25 years of experience as an audiologist. She specializes in diagnosing hearing loss and hearing aid fitting and verification.

She has worked in a number of settings, and spent many years caring for cochlear implant and vestibular patients at Midwest Ear Institute before leaving to spend more time with her family. Prior to joining Associated Audiologists, she was an adjunct lecturer with the University of Kansas. She earned her doctor of audiology degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center.

David C. Nissen, Au.D., FAAA, senior audiologist and Prairie Village Clinic manager, is committed to the practice’s focus on excellence and enjoys the opportunity to establish long-term relationships with his patients. He has been with Associated Audiologists for more than a decade and works carefully to determine each individual’s needs based on their lifestyle and hearing loss. He earned his doctorate of audiology degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences.

Dr. Pacey serves the Leavenworth community full time. She earned her doctorate of audiology degree from the University of Kansas-Medical Center and her undergraduate degree from Kansas State University. She performed her clinical externship with Associated Audiologists. Dr. Pacey's special expertise is in diagnostic hearing testing, hearing technology and tinnitus and sound sensitivity.

Susan Smittkamp,
AuD, PhD, FAAA

Audiologist

Susan E. Smittkamp, Au.D., Ph.D., FAAA, tinnitus and sound sensitivity specialist, earned both her doctorate of audiology and her doctorate of philosophy in audiology degrees from the University of Kansas. Her doctoral research focused on the effects of aging and cochlear damage on the auditory brainstem in a preclinical model. Before joining the practice, she was involved in preclinical neuroscience research at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Her research has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Smittkamp has a special interest in assisting patients with hearing loss and tinnitus. She has advanced training in the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment as well as in advanced hearing aid technology.
