“I was referred to Dr.Katrina Lapham Guntin by a young man who had lost hearing in one ear, and was grateful for all her care and help. I've been to excellent Northwestern Hospital specialists for my debilitating tinnitus. Dr. Guntin was very thorough in her testing and determination in selecting a device that would improve my diminishing hearing, and counteract maddening pulsating. After selecting the best device, the improvement in hearing was immediate. I have had no problem adapting to the small ear devices anatomically & aesthetically. “This review is a little late. I was telling my sister of my experience with this hearing center and she said I needed to write a review. I did not know how so she showed me. I live in Utah. My daughter met a native of Milwaukee and they planned an outdoor wedding at the Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago. The wedding was scheduled for the Labor Day weekend. I am deaf in my left ear. I have only 30% hearing in my right ear. I wear a hearing aid in my right ear and a cross over hearing aid in my left ear. The day before the wedding my hearing aid for my only hearing ear failed to charge. I would not be able to hear the wedding without a new battery. On the Friday afternoon before the Holiday weekend this hearing center who was a stranger to me agreed to try to assist me. I do not know their names but the receptionist and hearing aid technician were the kindness saviors a 70 year old father could ever expect to find. I left with the ability to hear and attended the rehearsal dinner and wedding being fully able to participate. This business has the most wonderful employees and culture of caring for the hearing impaired. They saved memories I would not have but for their kindness ”

When the domes were corrected and the charts on the computer screen meticulously set I was ready to test the aids. “This is somewhat a tale of the pandemic. My mother has been a client here for awhile, as was my father. We’d been enjoying not having to show up every month for her Lyric replacements, & we let the fine-tuning slide with her new brand, as it only required a battery change at home. Then Covid hit. After several months of lockdown, her 1st outing was to Hearing Health. When you only have the phone for contact & your hearing aids aren’t working, it’s bad. Unfortunately the test in the soundproof booth was a bust, & we were told that unfortunately there was nothing to be done but turn up the volume. I had just read an article about the critical effect hearing loss has on cognition, so I called back. At that point we were introduced to Dr. Emily Trittschuh. Dr. Emily, it turns out, had trained at a pediatric hospital, & she brought all of her specialized experience to bear on my mother’s hearing test. The standard system hadn’t worked, so the doctor invented methods which worked for my mother. On the spot. And remember, we all had on masks, so the visual part was gone— no lip reading, facial cues, etc. She was creative, innovative, resourceful, patient, precise; her professional experience & personal sensitivity enabled her to improvise new methods of communication and, lo & behold, she succeeded in extracting ALL the information she needed to reset every single value in those hearing aids which could help my mother hear. Not just the volume. As I watched this maestro work her magic, I burst into tears. You don’t realize the terrible stress of what is, in effect, the loss of a relationship because of technical difficulties! Until you realize that you’re going to get it back. Over the years we have had one audiologist pay a house call to my dad in the hospital, one do a curbside removal of my mom’s Lyrics prior to an MRI, & Dr. Emily is now working with the manufacturer to optimize settings for the technology of my mother’s landline. Even Jennifer & the receptionists are lovely~ pre-Covid, they baked you cookies in the waiting room! I can’t recommend Hearing Health Center, and especially Dr Emily Trittschuh, enough. ”
