Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation Provides Hearing Aid Assistance
The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation provides digital, affordable hearing aids and hearing screenings to low-income Georgia residents. Servicing hearing loss and hearing impaired individuals in 158 out of 159 Georgia counties, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation helped an average of 986 people in 2010 receive over 1810 hearing aids. The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation states that the average age of patients obtaining hearing aids with the Foundation’s assistance is over 65, and these seniors generally experience a decline in hearing due to lack of services in their community or lack of healthcare and insurance. The needy find solutions to health concerns that have often been neglected for many years by taking advantage of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation’s hearing aid programs.
The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation offers a hearing aid package to persons diagnosed with hearing impairment, and provides the equipment on a sliding scale based on income and type of aid requested. Recipients of assistance from The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation receive aid packages that include digital hearing aids, earmolds and three appointments to Lighthouse provider’s offices. The cost for services ranges from $60-205 and does not cover the initial exam by an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser. Potential program beneficiaries may contact the Lions Lighthouse Foundation by phone to obtain a list of participating hearing clinics, or may visit the facility in person. Qualified applicants for hearing services are Georgia residents, meet the organization’s income requirements, and show proof of having completed a hearing screening within the previous six months at a Lighthouse provider facility. A recommendation from an audiologist or hearing aid dispenser must accompany all applications for hearing aids. The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation works with local communities to host hearing aid screenings, which help to educate the public on hearing loss problems and solutions.
