

Dr. Markva received her undergraduate degree and graduate degree in Audiology from James Madison University. She received her doctoral degree in Audiology from University of Florida - Gainesville. Professional memberships include American Academy of Audiology, Academy of Doctors of Audiology, Hearing Loss Association of America, American Tinnitus Assocation, Fauquier Chamber of Commerce and the Warrenton Rotary Club. Dr. Markva has been providing services to Virginians since 1989 and opened Fauquier Hearing Services in 1999.
Dr. Sohns received her bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Connecticut and received her Master's and Doctorate degrees in Audiology from the University of Pittsburgh. She completed her doctoral externship at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. During her graduate training, Sarah was the recipient of a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) training grant under the pediatric audiology subaward. LEND training allowed her participation on a multidisciplinary team specializing in working with children with developmental disabilities. Dr. Sohns' passion is audiology, community partnerships, and patient advocacy. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, cycling, kayaking and hiking. Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, Sarah has relocated to Virginia to become the newest member of the Fauquier Hearing Services team. Professional affiliations include the American Academy of Audiology, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and Educational Audiology Association.
Hearing Tests: Our audiologist will assess and monitor your auditory status and upon diagnosis of hearing impairment, recommend appropriate treatment. This may mean a referral back to your physician or to an ENT physician for medical intervention. It may involve classroom management tips and techniques for a childs teacher. Hearing aids and/or other listening devices may be recommended. Personal Amplification: Hearing instruments are available from several manufacturers. We will match technology to your needs and lifestyle, as well as your budget. We believe in providing the latest technology with the greatest of personalized care - this includes walking you through the adjustment period and providing you with education regarding hearing aid use and care. Aural Rehabilitation and auditory training are also part of the process that allows you to get the best use of your hearing and your hearing instruments. Follow Up Care: Follow up care is extremely important in making sure the hearing devices that you selected is working correctly in all of your listening environments. After your initial fitting, you will be seen a couple of times for adjustments to make sure the devices are working properly for your needs. Hearing Aid Repairs, Batteries and Accessories: All of these items can be obtained at our practice. Please stop in, call or email us for help with repairs. We are glad to mail batteries and/or accessories - just let us know what you need. Assistive Listening Devices: Several devices are available to help you hear all the important sounds in life. We have hands-on opportunities in our office to try the TV Ears as well as amplified phones, phone amplifiers, vibrating alarm clocks and more. Tinnitus Evaluation and Consultation1 in 10 Americans have ringing or noises in the ears. One of the first steps in the treatment/management of this symptom is a complete hearing evaluation. Our audiologist will also assist in tinnitus management. Aural Rehabilitation and Training: Hearing aids are only a piece of the puzzle for hearing loss that cannot be medically corrected. Counseling to improve communication skills is also important as is auditory training to relearn good listening ability. Testing of infants, babies and childrenThe younger population requires special knowledge and test techniques. As a referral site of the Virginia Newborn Hearing Identification and Monitoring Program, we have the capability to give you information you need to know about your child's hearing. Hearing Protection and Custom Earpieces for a Variety of Your Listening Needs: We offer custom fit earpieces for many applications. Options include swimplugs, full earplugs, filtered earpieces to allow audibility of speech while protecting from noise, custom earpieces for use with in-ear musician's monitors, MP3s, iPods, cellphones, Walker Game Ears, pilot and communication systems. Color options range from discreetly clear to wildly striped or swirled.
