Dr. Himler joined Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing in 2011 after 20 years practicing audiology and hearing aid dispensing in Reston, Virginia. Board Certified in Audiology, she has a broad background of experience and truly enjoys working with all ages, newborn to 100+. A graduate of Boston University in 1984, she received her Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986, ultimately receiving her Doctor of Audiology from Salus University in Philadelphia in 2009. Dr. Himler belongs to the American Academy of Audiology, ASHA and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. She is very excited to be working in her home community and looks forward to improving the quality of life of her patients and their families through better hearing. Dr. Himler is married with 4 children and enjoys all things beach and photography.
Dr. Karen Woolman brings a wealth of clinical and diagnostic experience to Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing. She has worked in both private practice and medical settings, serving a variety of patient populations. Dr. Woolman has provided diagnostic evaluations for physicians in office and hospital-based settings, been involved in rehabilitation/habilitation including the fitting and dispensing of hearing devices, conducted auditory processing disorder testing, and managed patient education as well as family counseling. She also has a working knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL).
As a pediatric specialist, Dr. Woolman is trained in pediatric amplification, collaborates with local educational audiologists to ensure a holistic approach to her patients’ clinical and education needs, and works with early intervention programs. She produced an educational pamphlet on milestones for audition, speech and play, which has been incorporated in government, non-profit and private practices. Dr. Woolman also co-authored the article “Hearing Help in Nursing Homes,” which was recently published in Hearing Loss magazine.
Dr. Woolman completed her doctorate in Audiology with an emphasis in pediatric audiology from Gallaudet University in 2009, and earned her bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders from State University of New York at New Paltz in 2004. She is certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association, a registered Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and licensed by the State of Virginia to dispense hearing aids.
In her free time, Dr. Woolman runs the Teen Club program for KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now), and enjoys baking and sewing.
Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing Center is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that has been providing services since 1964 to residents of Loudoun and Fairfax Counties, and surrounding communities. In fulfilling our mission of helping people communicate, we provide hearing testing, hearing aid sales and service, assistive listening device sales and service, auditory processing evaluations, tinnitus evaluations, speech evaluations, speech therapy, computer-based learning enhancement programs and most recently occupational therapy.
The center has the only pediatric hearing aid loaner bank to provide 100% digital, state-of-the-art technology hearing aids for children who either have hearing aids in need of repair or who are awaiting new hearing aids. This enables hearing-impaired children to receive the benefit of hearing aids as quickly as possible, regardless of the family's financial situation. We also raise funds to provide hearing aids and services at little or no cost to those who are otherwise unable to afford them.
The mission of Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing Center is to improve the quality of life by helping people of all ages reach their fullest communication potential. The Center enriches lives and enriches communities. With a new location, the Center is expanding services to ensure that the mission is always fulfilled with affordable, comprehensive professional speech-language, audiology/hearing and occupational services for all who require these services.
Blue Ridge Speech and Hearing Center Audiology department offers an array of services to help diagnose hearing loss, assist the hearing impaired with the best possible hearing, and protect against hearing loss. We are a center who works with and for our patients and strives to provide the best customer service available. Our clinic works with several hearing aid manufacturers to provide our patients with a variety of options including different levels of technology, sizes, and costs. Our hearing aid pricing is highly competitive and our service is incomparable.
Our audiologists strive to fit the best product for your lifestyle and needs. Our audiologists work on a non-commissioned basis, so that your hearing health care is our primary concern. We offer a standard 30-day trial period on all purchased hearing aids and have several sets of demo hearing aids that we can offer for free trials prior to purchasing a hearing aid. We also offer diagnostic evaluations and follow-up services for Auditory Processing Disorder and tinnitus. Other professional services include Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy.
