ABR - DiagnosticAuditory Brain Stem Response Testing. The ABR is a non-invasive procedure which studies the neural integrity of the VIII Cranial (Auditory) Nerve and pathway. It specifically targets the pathway as it exits the innter ear, where the pathways of hearing and balance reside in the inner ear. The ABR is a very sensitive test to rule out benign tumors which sometimes grow in that area, putting pressure on the pathways that carry information about hearing and balance to the higher cortical areas of the brain.
