Gail Whitelaw

Dr. Whitelaw is the Clinic Director of the Speech-Language Hearing Clinic. Dr. Whitelaw is an audiologist with specific interests in the areas of pediatric and educational audiology. In addition to general audiology, she specializes in the area of the diagnosis and management of auditory processing disorders in children and adults, a significant area of her clinical practice for nearly the past 25 years. She is a frequent presenter and author on the topic of auditory processing disorders. Dr. Whitelaw has been involved in the clinical education process for her entire career, utilizing a model that provides a strong clinical foundation for future audiologists while maximizing the clinical services provided in patient care with this team approach. Dr. Whitelaw received a B.S. degree in 1981 in Speech and Hearing Science from Bowling Green State University, a M.A. in Audiology in 1983 from Michigan State University, a Ph.D. in Speech and Hearing Science in 1991 from The Ohio State University and a M.H.A. in Hospital and Health Services Administration in 1991 from The Ohio State University. In addition to clinical service provision and supervision of AuD students, Dr. Whitelaw is interested in advocacy for the profession of audiology and the impact of this advocacy on patients with hearing and balance disorders. She is also interested in leadership within the profession and believes that audiologists who graduate from Ohio State should develop this type of commitment to the profession on a local, state, and/or national level. Dr. Whitelaw has served in many leadership positions within her profession, including as Chair of the Ohio Speech and Hearing Governmental Affairs Coalition (OSHGAC) the President of the Ohio Academy of Audiology, and as President of the American Academy of Audiology, the largest organization of audiologists in the world.

The goal of the Audiology Clinic is to maximize the communication abilities of individuals with hearing loss by providing comprehensive diagnostic services and state of the art treatments for hearing loss and related disorders. The Audiology Clinic serves patients of all ages and encourages family involvement through out the entire process. Doctoral level graduate student clinicians in the Department of Speech and Hearing Science conduct the assessment and intervention services. These services are supervised by state licensed and nationally certified audiologists.

Audiology Services Include: Audiological Evaluations for Pediatrics and Adults, Auditory Processing Evaluations, Tinnitus Evaluations, Hearing Aid Sales and Service, Assistive Listening Devices, Custom Hearing Conservation and Swim Molds
