Speech Language and Hearing Association Dr. Wilks began his work in Audiology in 1972 at the Lexington School for the Deaf, located in Jackson Heights, New York. He provided pediatric evaluations and was involved in some of the earliest research into digital hearing aids. In 1973, he joined the Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York City, where he became Coordinator of Audiology Services. He served as supervisor of Audiologists and graduate level audiology students and as Lecturer to the Ear, Nose and Throat residency program. In 1978, he left Mount Sinai to operate the Wilks Hearing Center, which was founded by his father, in 1952. Dr. Wilks received his Doctor of Audiology degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Wilks serves as the Center's director.

State Speech, Language and Hearing Association Member L.I. Speech Language and Hearing Association Dr. Carlson has been with the Wilks Hearing Center since 1986. She is Supervisor of Audiologists and Audiology Interns. She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. In addition to her many years of dispensing hearing aids, she provides central auditory processing evaluations and neuro-audiological studies. She heads the infant and pediatric workgroup for the center.

State Speech, Language and Hearing Association Dorothy began her audiology career at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, in New York City. She has been with the Wilks Hearing Center since 1987, providing pediatric and adult evaluations, hearing aid dispensing and electrophysiological studies.

State Speech, Language and Hearing Association Dr. Brody began at the Wilks Hearing Center in 1999. She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. Dr. Brody is licensed in New York State and her responsibilities include pediatric and adult evaluations, electro acoustic and real-ear hearing aid evaluations and hearing aid dispensing. She has a concentration in digital hearing instrument programming.


About this clinic

Wilks Hearing center opened its doors in 1952 with the advent of the transistor hearing aid. Now in its second generation of family operation, it has been a comprehensive audiology facility since 1979.

Wilks Hearing Center brings together a staff of audiologists with educational and medical center experience from several of the nation's most prestigious institutions. We take great pride in our diagnostic capabilities as well as our expert hearing aid evaluations and fittings. We are always here for hearing aid support whenever you need us.

All professional staff members have graduate degrees in audiology and are licensed by New York State. Each is certified by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association. Dr. Wilks and Dr. Carlson are Fellows of the American Academy of Audiology and are Board Certified by the American Board of Audiology.
