Dr. Deborah Gunthermann earned her Doctorate in Audiology from Arizona School of Health Sciences, her M.A in Audiology from Northwestern University and her B.A. in Audiology / Speech Pathology from New York University.
Growing up, Debbie saw her grandmother deal with severe hearing loss that she had developed in childhood. Debbie admired the grace and the strength with which her grandmother met her communicative challenges, and she saw firsthand the limitations of the hearing device technologies of the day. It is in tribute to her grandmother that Debbie spends each day providing the best technical and personal hearing solution for each of her patients.
Audiologist Rhonda Ruby earned her M.A. in Audiology from Syracuse University and her B.A. from the University of Colorado. As co-owner of the West Newton Hearing Center, Rhonda loves the flexibility that being in private practice gives her to ensure her patients receive the time so she can adjust their hearing devices to their own unique circumstances. You’ll love her enthusiasm, her warmth, and her “can-do” attitude.
Dr. Melissa Mahaffey earned her Au.D. from the Arizona School of Health Sciences, her M.A. from the University of Iowa and her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
Christina Varrasso joined our practice as a receptionist in 2009 and quickly fell in love with our patients and wanted to be a bigger part of making them smile. She was excited to make someone’s day just by changing a wax filter or retubing an ear mold and bringing a “dead” hearing aid back to life.
Her fascination with the ever-evolving hearing aid technology combined with her love of helping others drove her to further her education and become certified as an Audiology Assistant. Two years later she joined Rhonda and Debbie at the American Academy of Audiology conference and decided to take her career further. After intensive study and a one year apprenticeship, Christina became licensed as a Hearing Instrument Specialist in 2012. With her new license she will be able to participate even more in patient care.
At the West Newton Hearing Center, we have three clinical audiologists and one hearing instrument specialist, all licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are members of the Academy of Doctoring Audiologists and the American Academy of Audiology.
