When nine women opened KSB to the public on New Year’s Day in 1897, nearly 5,000 local residents toured the new facility. Medical treatment was still in its infancy and most medicines were derivatives of herbs or flowers. In the years that followed, many building changes and additions were made on the site where the original hospital was built. In the 1970s, the hospital took part in the nationwide medical revolution, opening the following departments: Intensive care unit, February 1972. Medical arts clinic, January 1973. Home care department, June 1976. Cardiac evaluation and rehabilitation, August 1977. Emergency department, April 1978. Renal dialysis unit, October 1978. Changes through the decades have ensured that the configuration of today’s hospital meets the needs of current medical practices. The latest addition to our comprehensive medical offerings came in June 2006, when the hospital marked the opening of a $3 million state-of-the-art cardiovascular lab and a new endoscopy area.
