Renee Giordano has been with this clinic and its predecessor for 11 years and is the Audiology Assistant, whose duties include working with hearing aids in all different capacities. She is also involved in supervising the day to day actives of the office. Renee became a licensed audiologist assistant in July, 2007, enabling her to work directly with patients in a variety of ways in support of Dr. Crosby.
Dr. Noël Crosby has been an audiologist for over 21 years. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Florida State University, where she also completed her masters degree, and she earned her doctorate in clinical audiology from the University of Florida. She was on the inaugural board of the Florida Academy of Audiology, served as its president in 2000, and 2009. Dr. Crosby worked at The Silverstein Institute for 14 years, for the last six of which she was Director of Audiology. While there she helped to establish the Institute's cochlear implant program as well as Sarasota Memorial Hospital's infant hearing screening program. In 2006 she established her own clinic, which is now authorized to dispense the revolutionary completely invisible Lyric hearing device. Because she operates independently of any hearing aid manufacturer, Dr. Crosby can provide her patients with unbiased evaluations and fit them with whatever hearing devices might best suit their individual needs. She has fitted hearing aids from a wide range of manufacturers, including Oticon, Starkey, Phonak, Unitron, Widex, Siemens, Rexton, ReSound, Sonic Innovations, and many more. A founding member of her local Self Help for Hard of Hearing Persons (SHHH) chapter, Dr. Crosby has also served on the board of directors of the Deaf Service Center of Manatee and Sarasota counties and is a member of the American Academy of Audiology, The Academy of Doctors of Audiology and The Florida Academy of Audiology. She has coauthored professional papers on multichannel cochlear implants and on electrical audiometry in the diagnosis of acoustic neuromas, and she has lectured throughout the state of Florida on hearing loss and hearing therapies. Dr.Crosby maintains clinical offices at two sites south of Sarasota: Englewood and Boca Grande. She and her husband Michael and daughter Micah reside in Sarasota
Our primary responsibilities are: (1) audiometric testing to determine the exact nature and cause of your hearing loss, (2) referring you to a physician specialist if surgery or other medical treatment is the best or only remedy for your type of hearing loss, and (3) fitting and servicing hearing aids for you if your type of hearing loss can best be helped in this way. In addition, we offer a number of other services to our patients: • Tympanometry: Measuring the mobility of the eardrum and the small bones (ossicles) of the middle ear, to determine their efficiency in transmitting sound • Management and removal of cerumen (ear wax) • Evaluation and treatment of tinnitus (ringing or other noises in the ear) • Speech in noise testing, to evaluate your hearing efficiency in a noisy environment with and without hearing aids • Fitting of custom-made swim molds and earmolds; sale of other noise protection items and Ipod headphones • Sale of replacement batteries for all makes and models of hearing aids under a special discount program • Sale of assistive listening devices for use with television, telephone or in public meetings • Repair and servicing of all makes and models of hearing aids and assistive listening devices • Real-ear measurement: live speech mapping while wearing hearing aids • Reprogramming of hearing aids to accommodate changes in your hearing profile • LACE (Listening and Communication Enhancement) programs • Computer-based “brain training” to improve your discrimination of sounds • Employment testing • Aural rehabilitation counseling for you and your family • Second-opinion consults
