The Audiology Center at The GW Medical Faculty Associates

“In 2005, I saw one of the audiology doctors at GW, was tested, and was diagnosed with permanent hearing loss. Several years later, I needed a letter or some documentation from the doctor for the hearing loss that I could show to my employer to justify some special equipment for work. When I called the office to see if they could send me something than documented the hearing loss diagnosis, Dr. Marquitta Merkison told me that she would not do that. Instead, she said I would have to come in for another appointment, get tested, and get diagnosed again. Yet, there had been no change in my hearing. Indeed, there shouldn't have been because the hearing loss was permanent. I was not asking that Dr. Merkison represent that she had diagnosed me -- she had not -- only that she translate what was in my medical record into layman's terms into a separate letter. In other words, something to the effect of "Patient was seen in this office on x date, and was diagnosed with hearing loss." All of this was true and was documented in my medical records. What made this worse was that I have a high deductible, so I would have had to pay for the unnecessary hearing test out of pocket, which would have been several hundred dollars. This is not good customer service and completely unnecessary on Dr. Merkison's part. ”
