Melinda “Sunni” McBride, Doctor of Audiology, founded South Bay Hearing & Balance Center in 2007. Dr. McBride and her team of specialists have created a dynamic, award winning audiology/hearing aid practice, located in Torrance, that utilizes the newest in high tech equipment and stresses personalized customer service. She and her team have been voted South Bay’s Best Audiologists every year since 2008. The team became a member of the Audigy Group National Network in 2011. As the only Audigy Certified practice in the community, they are committed to providing the highest level of hearing care.
In 2013, Sunni acquired Mission Audiology in Mission Viejo. In 2014, she formed the Sound Wave Hearing Centers Group, a brand which will represent excellence in hearing care now and in the future.
Sunni McBride received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida in 2000. She was one of the first Doctor of Audiology recipients in California. Because of her continued success building one of the premiere hearing aid practices in Southern California, she was invited to be the first provider in the South Bay of the Lyric, totally invisible, extended wear hearing aid. As one of the top Lyric providers in the US, Sunni has become a consultant for the Lyric hearing device and has lectured and coached in several countries around the world.
Sunni feels that it is important to raise audiology awareness in the community. She has been a co-sponsor of the Senior Aging Expo. She went on a hearing mission to Guadalajara, Mexico where she was part of a team that fit 2000 hearing aids on needy people. She has appeared as a guest lecturer on CNN and local cable television, taught classes in the Audiology program at California State Los Angeles University and given presentations about hearing to local and professional organizations.
Sunni loves being a grandmother to a growing number of grandchildren. She enjoys hiking and skiing.
Dana Ryan is a hearing aid dispenser, who earned her B.A. from the University of California, Irvine. For 20 years she was an administrator and recruiter for large law firms with extensive leadership, technology and managerial training. In 2007 she became the Director of Operations for a large audiology practice and began her education and training to become licensed. The career change was perfect for her because she embraces the technological aspects of hearing aid dispensing and her compassionate nature provides her patients with care and good humor. In 2012 she was one of five providers in the nation who received the Million Dollar Provider award. Because of her skills and talents, Dana recently was given the opportunity to manage our expansion office in Mission Viejo, CA. She loves to ski, read and travel.
Dr. Rebecca Hu earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from UCLA and her Doctoral degree in Audiology from Northwestern University. Dr. Hu is a certified member of American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She completed her clinical training at the University of Chicago Medical Center. After completing her training, Dr. Hu spent another year at the University of Chicago Medical Center as a clinical audiologist prior to moving back to California. As a Taiwanese American, Rebecca is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. She enjoys helping her patients to improve their quality of life by restoring hearing and alleviating them from vertigo.
Dr. Ryan Bullock has been with South Bay Hearing since November 2012.
During his time at South Bay Hearing, Dr. Bullock has been an AudigyCertified Provider of Distinction for 2013 and 2014 by consistently demonstrating elite levels of patient care and satisfaction. He is a guest presenter at the Patients For Life (PFL) conferences held by Audigy Group across the country every year.
Dr. Bullock received his Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from Missouri State University in 2012. As part of his residency at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, he treated patients at the Nashville VA, Alvin C. York VA, and Vanderbilt University. His doctoral project focused on noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) in unsuspecting populations. During his education, Dr. Bullock served for two years as the state coordinator for the Healthy Hearing Program of the Missouri Special Olympics organization. He has also worked with Missouri State University on streamlining the newborn hearing-screening programs for hospitals in the state of Missouri.
Dr. Bullock has been board certified by the American Board of Audiology since 2013. Dr. Bullock is a past national president of the Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) and has served on the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) board of directors as well as on the American Academy of Audiology Foundation (AAAF) board of directors. In 2011, he founded Swim To Hear, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising hearing loss awareness and educating the public on the help that is available through audiology. As a former collegiate swimmer, he enjoys competitive swimming in the Southern California region and was the overall winner of the 2014 Dwight Crum Pier to Pier two-mile ocean swim.
Mollana (Mollie) Carson, Doctor of Audiology, earned her undergraduate degree in Speech-Language-Hearing Science at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She completed her Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. Her clinical training was at the University of Minnesota Medical Center. After finishing her training, she worked at Ear, Nose and Throat Specialty Care of MN for four years prior to moving to California. Dr. Carson has extensive experience in adult and pediatric diagnostics, balance disorders and dispensing of hearing aids. Mollie was an active member in professional organizations throughout her career, serving as the co-chair on the Communications and Publications Committee of the Minnesota Academy of Audiology. She has been with South Bay Hearing and Balance since October 2013. Originally from South Dakota, Mollie enjoys spending time outdoors biking and running and spends time with her family every chance she gets!
Nisreen Alkhayer, Doctor of Audiology, is the newest audiologists in our Mission Viejo office, Mission Audiology. She has Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from a joint program between Damascus University and University of Jordan. She also completed her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree at Illinois State University (ISU). During her study at ISU, Dr. Alkhayer volunteered to do hearing screenings for Special Olympics Athletes. Dr. Alkhayer moved to California to do her externship where she received extensive training in hearing aids and balance assessment and treatment. As a Middle Eastern audiologist, Dr. Alkhayer is fluent in Arabic. Her research focused on using reading out loud to improve hearing aid users’ benefit.
Dr. Alkhayer thinks it is important to hear and enjoy the sounds and voices around you, and she loves helping patients be able to hear and improve the quality of their lives. She is a fabulous cook and makes great baklava.
