Otolaryngology is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Otolaryngologists are trained in the medical and surgical management of patients with disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT), head, and neck (excluding the brain and spine). They are commonly referred to as ENT surgeons. Their special skills include diagnosing and managing diseases of the ear, nose, sinuses, larynx (voice box), oral cavity, and pharynx (throat), as well as structures of the neck and face.
