A Journey to Harmony

Cochlear Implant Users Find Support, Therapy Resources with Advanced Bionics
New Online Community

Valencia, Calif., July 18, 2007 Recognizing that every persons hearing experience is unique, Advanced Bionics launches www.HearingJourney.com, a new online community at www.HearingJourney.com that provides a Web-based social networking and education tool to cochlear implant users and their families. An aural rehabilitation resource, the Internet forum connects people from around the world through shared knowledge and experience as they support one another in the journey toward maximum hearing potential.

Over the years, and not just in the audiology and medical technology industries, we continue to experience the tremendous value of connecting people through knowledge and experience, said Patricia Trautwein, Au.D., Director of Education and Training for Advanced Bionics. Through the power of the Internet, www.HearingJourney.com is helping to make the transition from silence to sound a positive and rewarding experience.

The Internet forum invites cochlear implant users, prospective candidates, parents and caregivers and hearing health professional alike to connect with others who are also learning about, choosing, getting and living with, a cochlear implant. An all encompassing tool, the online community seeks to provide a safe, nurturing resource by providing informative chats hosted by audiologists and other hearing professionals, as well as interactive aural rehabilitation and education programs for children and adults.

The online community offers an unprecedented opportunity to interact, learn practical user tips, hear inspiring stories, find encouragement, and support one another every step of the way, adds Gloria Garner, Au.D., the sites developer and moderator.

A core component of the Web site, the Listening Room provides a resource full of (re)habilitation activities and ideas to support the development of listening and language skills in children, adolescents and adults. Created by auditory-verbal therapist Dave Sindrey, M.CI.Sc.Cert-AVT, the Listening Room contributes to www.HearingJourney.coms great potential to share ideas with each other, and to feel connected to others with hearing loss in common.

Furthering its commitment to providing cochlear implant users with innovative technology, Advanced Bionics recently introduced its revolutionary Harmony' HiResolution Bionic Ear System. Designed to enhance music appreciation and improve hearing in a variety of difficult listening environments, the Harmony System couples revolutionary HiRes120 sound processing feature with the new Harmony BTE external sound processor. Together, the two key components of the Harmony System provide significantly enhanced spectral resolution compared to conventional systems for a more natural representation of sound to help improve patient performance.

Patients interested in breakthroughs in cochlear implant technology to restore hearing should speak to their physicians and visit www.bionicear.com or call 800-678-2575 for more information.
