New Book About Cochlear Implants to be Featured on ''Discovery Channel'' Program

September 10, 2003 --- The science behind cochlear implants will be explained on The Discovery Channels "Assignment Discovery" in a segment geared to school-aged children on September 19th at 9:00 AM eastern standard time. The newly published book, "Bridge to Sound with a Bionic Ear", will be featured in the program as a reference for viewers.

Bridge to Sound with a 'Bionic' Ear tells the stories of anguished parents trying to help their child; teenagers hearing for the first time; adults and seniors hearing again. Bridge to Sound with a 'Bionic' Ear is like having a roomful of people telling you their hopes and fears, and how they came to make the life-changing choice to hear. It also presents extensive research documentation, lists resources for those seeking help with their hearing health decisions, and much more.

"This book should be helpful for anyone-parents, adults, teachers, and the community at large-who needs to better understand the cochlear implant experience and how those who were deaf learn to process sound, and what strategies can be used. I received my cochlear implant seven years ago but where, I now ask myself, was this feast of information when I needed it and then later when so many people e-mailed me requesting similar advice?"
Excerpt of a review from Auditory-Verbals publication "The Auricle" by Sigrid Cerf
