Think you understand the human body? Think again. Studies reveal our hearing is more than simply listening with our ears; in fact our hearing is skin deep, literally.
Various studies have found the human body uses sensory integration to understand the environment around you, meaning we may hear with our ears but our skin also senses sound vibration to assist in determining various aspects of sound.
Sensory integration is the use of all five senses – sight, taste, touch, smell and hearing – to absorb all that is happening in our environment. This integration of all senses provides us a broader view of our environment and allows our brain to “take it all in”.
