FM products from Phonak are the most popular in the world and are used by an increasing number of hearing-impaired adults. Many of them also have visual impairments, and it was for them that Phonak has prepared a set of specially adapted user guides.
Estimates put the proportion of adult hearing instrument wearers who also suffer from some form of sight impairment at a substantial 15%. For individuals like these, whose vision offers less compensation for their hearing impairment than other users, superior technology is a crucial aid to improved communication. This was the inspiration behind Phonak's decision to adapt its FM product user guides to the needs of the visually impaired.
To read comfortably, visually impaired people require high-level contrast and large 14- or 16-point fonts. Combine these with optimum lighting and in some cases additional magnification, and the documentation is much more legible. The newly adapted user guides from Phonak fulfill these requirements.
"The new guides will be enormously helpful to many of our customers," says Pat Henry, FM manager at Phonak USA. "The Veterans Administration particularly is very appreciative because many of their clients have both hearing and seeing impairments."
Available in ten languages, the special user guides can be downloaded as PDF files from the Phonak website but will also be embedded in FM SuccessWare, Phonak's fitting software for FM products. End-users or professionals can print them locally, as required.
