Better Hearing Institute (BHI) Launches Hearing Aid Tax Credit Website

The Better Hearing Institute, Advocates for Americas Ears, announced recently the launch of www.hearingaidtaxcredit.org, in collaboration with the Hearing Industries Association (HIA). The objective? To let our senators and representatives in Washington, D.C. hear that we support passage of HR2329/S1410 House and Senate bills to provide up to $1,000 in tax credit to hearing aid wearers when two hearing aids are purchased.

On the tax credit website, visitors can easily contact their representatives in the House and Senate with a few clicks, letting these men and women know that millions of people support this bill designed to help defray the costs of hearing aids.

Write Congress Now

When visitors access the hearing health industry-sponsored site, they can let their voices be heard (or read) by clicking on the Write Congress Now link on the homepage. Simply enter your zip code to produce a list of representatives and your states two senators.

The site makes it easy to personalize your note, describing individual and family experiences related to hearing loss and the cost of hearing devices. Or, visitors can still cast their votes on this important issue using a form letter. No writing required.

Messages can be printed out and delivered through the mail, or sent via email for immediate delivery. Congressional sponsors of the bill receive a thank-you note for their support while others are informed of the importance of this critical piece of legislation. Many Americans will be in the market for hearing aids as the baby boomer bubble moves through its Golden Years.

How Can You Help?

In addition to a letter writing campaign directed at our government leaders, the Better Hearing Institute offers the following suggestions to help garner support for this bill.

  • When writing Congressional leaders online, inform up to 10 other people about the bill and ask for their support with a click. The chain letter gone digital!
  • Inform all hearing aid users you know of the bills existence. Encourage them to visit www.hearingaidtaxcredit.org.
  • Write to the opinion editor of your local newspaper to post a letter on the editorial page. Dont forget to provide readers the website to show support.
  • Promote support in your community using community bulletin boards, club meetings, service organization luncheons and so on. The effort is to get group support, creating a snowball effect.
  • If youre a member of the medical community especially the hearing health segment, write a letter on your professional stationery to all of your representatives in the nations capital. Your letterhead lends credence to the effort.

Industry-Wide Support for HR2329/S1410

The Write Congress Now campaign has been undertaken by the entire hearing health community from manufacturers to industry groups to consumer advocacy groups like BHI.

These are all stakeholders in promoting the passage of this tax credit legislation because these are the companies and associations committed to improving hearing in the millions of Americans who have hearing loss.

And you, the individual who wears hearing aids, or who is about to get your hearing tested for the first time, ever, are stakeholders, too. Indeed, you have a stake in the passage of HR2329/S1410. A $1,000 stake.

Let your representatives in Washington know that you support HR2329/S1410 and you vote in general elections. The goal is one million emails and letters to our legislators.

Let your voice be heard loud and clear!
