Advanced Bionics Announces a New Program to Generate Awareness of the Importance of Meningitis Vaccinations for Cochlear Implant

Meningitis, specifically Pneumococcal (bacterial) meningitis, is one of the most serious and life threatening risks for cochlear implant recipients. Fortunately, there are effective vaccinations against Pneumococcal infections that can immunize and protect against this significant form of bacterial meningitis disease. Unfortunately, many cochlear implant recipients do not get vaccinated, leaving them unnecessarily exposed to the potential health risks associated with bacterial meningitis.

Advanced Bionics is proud to announce a new program intended to increase awareness among cochlear implant candidates, recipients, implant surgeons and audiologists who treat cochlear implant recipients, regarding the importance of proper meningitis vaccination. The key objective of this program is to increase awareness of the serious risk associated with meningitis and encourage adult cochlear implant recipients and parents of children with cochlear implants to seek vaccination immediately. The program provides a financial award to parents or guardians of all children (18 years of age and younger) implanted with Advanced Bionics cochlear implants, to vaccinate their children against Pneumococcal meningitis. In addition, the program will reimburse out-of-pocket Pneumococcal meningitis vaccination expenses, not covered by health insurance, for both children and adults with Advanced Bionics cochlear implants.

Parents of Advanced Bionics cochlear implant recipients 18 years old and younger:

  • Pneumococcal meningitis is serious and potentially life threatening.

  • Meningitis vaccinations Prevnar 7-valent (PCV), for children less than 2 years old, and Pneumovax 23-valent (PPV), for children 2 years and older beginning on their 2nd birthday, are available as vaccinations to protect against Pneumococcal meningitis.

  • Advanced Bionics will reimburse you for the direct costs of the Pneumococcal meningitis vaccination not covered by health insurance.

  • Provide proof of completion of the recommended dose(s) of Pneumococcal meningitis vaccination and receive a $100 award payment from Advanced Bionics for each completed vaccination series for up to a maximum of $300:

Vaccination Series:

  1. Prevnar (children less than 2 years old) - 4 Doses,

  2. Pneumovax (children 2 years and older) - Initial Dose

  3. Pneumovax (children 2 years and older) 5th year Booster Dose

Adult Advanced Bionics cochlear implant recipients 19 years old and above:

  • Pneumococcal meningitis is serious and potentially life threatening.

  • Pneumovax is available as vaccination to protect against Pneumococcal meningitis.

  • Advanced Bionics will reimburse you for the direct costs of the Pneumococcal meningitis vaccination not covered by health insurance.

Surgeons and Audiologists who treat cochlear implant recipients and implant cochlear implants:

  • Pneumococcal meningitis is serious and potentially life threatening.

  • Meningitis vaccinations, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) known by the trade name Prevnar 7-valent (or equivalent) for children less than 2 years old, and Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (PPV) known by the trade name Pneumovax 23-valent for children 2 years and older beginning on their 2nd birthday, are available as vaccinations to protect against Pneumococcal meningitis.

  • Advanced Bionics will reimburse your Advanced Bionics cochlear implant recipients for the direct costs of the Pneumococcal vaccination not covered by insurance.

  • Advanced Bionics will pay the parent or guardian of each Advanced Bionics cochlear implant recipient 18 years old and younger $100 upon proof of each completed Pneumococcal vaccination series for up to a maximum of $300.

  • Talk to your Advanced Bionics cochlear implant recipients about the importance of vaccination against meningitis and available Advanced Bionics financial support.

  • Verify the vaccination status for each of your current cochlear implant recipients. Advise those without it regarding the importance of the Pneumococcal vaccination, and of making it a priority to receive the vaccination as soon as possible.

  • Counsel all your candidates regarding the importance of obtaining the Pneumococcal vaccination before cochlear implant surgery, and remind those that did not get it ahead of time to receive it as soon as possible.
