New Writing Contest for High Schoolers with Hearing Loss

January 17, 2006--High school students in 10th and 11th grade with hearing loss can participate in The SpiRIT Writing Contest, recently announced by Rochester Institute of Technologys National Technical Institute for the Deaf, and get a jump start on their career education.

Tenth graders can win a scholarship to Explore Your Future, a summer career exploration program for deaf or hard-of-hearing high school students at RIT/NTID.

Eleventh graders can win a two-day visit including room and board with a parent to RIT/NTID, plus a $500 stipend that can be applied to travel expenses or used at the RIT bookstore.

Teachers are asked to help their students participate by submitting four samples of their students writing. Samples of class work such as essays, reports, poems or short stories will be required, as well as other writing samples.
