Dallas' First Freestanding Hearing Clinic Marks 20 Years

Dr. Deborah Price returns from serving remote tribes in Brazils rainforest

This week Hearing Professional Center marks 20 years of service, and founder Dr. Deborah Price returns from nine days in Brazils rainforest where she tested and treated 216 natives living in seven remote villages along a 210-mile stretch of the Upper Rio Negro River. Among them, 10 persons were fitted with hearing aids including a four-year-old girl who was born unable to hear and has never spoken. Her excitement at hearing for the first time was overwhelming.

Working through the Rio Negro Foundation, Dr. Price makes periodic visits to train practitioners and treat patients in South America. On this trip, she also donated $10,000 of medical equipment including an audiometer and impedance bridge, and coordinated the donation of 14 hearing aids from Widex and Phonak Hearing Aid Companies and $20,000 in additional supplies including hearing aid batteries and ear cleaning equipment.

Twenty-five years ago I entered this field to help improve lives through better hearing, said Dr. Price. Building a successful practice enables me to continue helping others, particularly those who cannot afford hearing aids and specialized medical attention.

When Dr. Price opened her practice in 1983, she developed a niche by offering fundamental audiology services to clients. Unheard of at the time, her practice launched an important trend in healthcare that gives patients access to faster service, better equipment, better diagnosing capabilities, and cutting-edge treatment. She offers testing, ear cleaning, hearing aid fitting and maintenance, as well as regularly scheduled educational seminars.

In the past 20 years, Dr. Price has fitted ear protection for, and served the diagnostic and rehabilitative needs of, more than 10,000 clients ranging from rock stars to high-profile business leaders to local school children to the underprivileged and underserved in the Metroplex and overseas. Dr. Price has donated countless hours, 400 hearing aids, 200,000 batteries, and more than $25,000 in medical equipment to benefit low-income hearing impaired children and adults.

Dr. Deborah Price is one of the first hearing professionals in the U.S. to earn the Doctor of Audiology degree. She serves as vice chair of the Audiology Foundation of America and is nationally recognized as an expert in her field.
