Phonak Hearing Instruments Donated to Bangkok Youth

Swiss Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter presented a donation from the Swiss Hear the World Foundation – 50 Phonak hearing instruments worth over CHF 100,000 – during his visit to the Klong Toey slum in Bangkok. The hearing instruments will benefit children and young people in Klong Toey who suffer from hearing loss. This support will give them the opportunity to develop at an appropriate rate for their age.

Established in 2006, the Hear the World Foundation campaigns for a world where everyone has a chance to experience good hearing. It focuses particularly on supporting children with hearing loss, allowing them to develop at an age-appropriate rate. Against this background, the foundation is now supporting children with hearing loss living in Bangkok’s Klong Toey slum, providing them with new, high-quality Phonak hearing instruments.

The donation was formally handed over on Saturday by Swiss Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter during his visit to the area. The children will have their new hearing instruments fitted free of charge by Phonak’s local partner in Bangkok over the coming weeks.

In developing countries, children with hearing loss are rarely able to access medical and audiological care. If left untreated, hearing loss can have serious consequences: without a good sense of hearing, children find it hard to learn to speak, denying them the chance of a school education and the opportunity to develop at an appropriate rate for their age. For this reason, the Hear the World Foundation focuses on providing audiological care for children in need as a result of hearing loss.

Since 2006, the Hear the World Foundation has supported over 45 projects on five continents and has already given hundreds of people with hearing loss the chance to enjoy a better quality of life.
