Beck: Hi Dr. Weiss. Its nice to meet you.
Weiss: Hi Dr. Beck, nice to meet you too.
Beck: Before we get to the topic of the day, I wonder if youd tell us a little about your background?
Weiss: Absolutely. I went to medical school at Ohio State University and graduated in 1958, and I did my residency in internal medicine in Chicago through 1962. After that, I went into private practice just outside of Chicago, and I retired in 1991. I had heart bypass surgery that year, and if my hearing was good, I would have gone back to work, but my hearing made it very difficult, so I retired.
Beck: And for the last 13 years, what have you been doing with yourself?
Weiss: Playing quite a bit of golf, traveling and really having a good time!
Beck: When did you first notice you had a hearing problem?
Weiss: Probably about 20 or 25 years ago. I even tried hearing aids quite a while ago, and though they worked OK, they spent so much time in the repair shop, they just werent worth it. I couldnt use the early hearing aids.they were loud, but they werent clear, and they broke all the time. Ill bet I wore ten or twelve pairs of hearing aids, but nothing worked for very longit was very frustrating.
Beck: When did you maximally count on the early hearing aids, yet they consistently failed?
Weiss: Probably cocktail parties and restaurants. You know how it isyou take your wife or family to a nice place, and you wanna relax and swap stories and hear what the other person has to sayand the food is great, and the environment is wonderful, but if you cannot hear the other person, its very frustrating. I couldnt hear anything and I never enjoyed myself.
Beck: So, how did you learn about SeboTek?
Weiss: Well, I was heading to the doctor for a personal medical problem, and I wanted to be sure to hear everything he said. So I went to the audiology office first and I told them I really needed to hear at this upcoming appointment, and I said I wasnt going to leave until they made me hear and I had just been in the week before.
Beck: Oh my goodness!
Weiss: The training fellow from SeboTek happened to be in the office that day and he was teaching the audiologist about the SeboTek PAC product and he said to me Would you like to try these? I said Sure. He fit me right then and there, they fit both ears and it was like a miracle. I was only planning to wear them to the doctors office, but they were so great that after three days, I knew I was going to keep them, and I have.
Beck: Whats the biggest difference between the old hearing aids and the SeboTek PAC?
Weiss: I can hear with the SeboTek -- Thats the big difference!! Speech is clear, I can hear about 85 or 90 percent of the conversation even in groups. With the older hearing aids, I used to get about 20 or 30 percent of the speech. I use the SeboTeks on the phone and in the movies. Its really nice in the movies, and I hear much better with my SeboTek hearing aids than with the movie house equipment. Its really wonderful!
Beck: How long have you been wearing the SeboTek PACs?
Weiss: Its been about two months now, and in fact, its been the best two months I ever had as far as wearing hearing aids! Ive had no repairs, they fit well, and the sound is fabulous. These hearing aids make my life worthwhile, and I wouldnt consider wearing any other hearing aids. These are just phenomenal.
Beck: Im glad youre doing so well! Those are very strong words and a powerful endorsement.
Weiss: And its all true. It really is as good as it can be, unless you could actually give me normal hearing again!
