Water Restrictions Following Middle Ear Implant

Thank you for asking about middle ear implants. The current generation of implants allows swimming (water in the ear canal) after a brief healing period. The length of time varies among devices from two weeks (when a post-auricular incision is used) to 6 weeks (when an ear canal incision is used). It is possible to shower during the healing period by protecting the surgical area. Be sure to check with your otolaryngologist, as these recommendations may vary.
